@SAShold I use 1 1/2 inch ribbon, but you can use whatever appeals to you the length is anywhere from 10″ to 12″ per piece depending on the bow size you desire.
    Hope this helps,

@CharmedMamaofTwo Hi sorry for the delayed response, yes you can use fabric just measure the width if a pillow case and the length from the collarbone to how long you want the dress to be. You can make a template just for your little one by using an existing piece of clothing, top or dress and add about an inch and a half on the length for the casing. hope this helps!

Is there an easy way to make a pillowcase dress out of regular fabric instead of a pillowcase? Also, may I ask if your arm-hole template is the size you use for all sizes, say a one year old? Thanks!

This might be a silly question but what do I do with the folded flap on the inside of the pillow case. I assume that is the bottom of the dress?

Thank you for being so simple and easy to understand. My mom who has sewn for years and knows my ability level (or inability, really) giggled at me when I told her I wanted to make a pillowcase dress. You really simplified it and I totally have confidence now! Thanks so much! I will let you know how it turns out!

Hi, Yes you do cut the sewn edge of the pillowcase off leaving the opening as the hem. and you could use anything else in place of the ribbon including making your own bias tape etc… Hope this helps-Julie
